Why do young girls’ marriage affect their social and academic progress/status?

why ?

Many girls in the world who were active in academics and social activities became inactive after their marriage. Only a few men are kind enough to allow their partner to pursue higher education although they also don’t often allow them to work when they finish the study.

There are many different factors affecting girls' role in the community such as traditional beliefs, ignorance and the state of the country. For instance, our community believes if the wife is richer than the husband or has a higher profile in the society, she  will take over the decisions of the family. Although the standard life of a family dictates sharing and consultation of the two partners, in Somalia things are different.

Due to that perception and sharing shores, most husbands stop their wives from working  or gaining higher education. As a matter of fact, most Somali men feel ashamed when their wife has a higher title in the society.  In contrast, wives are proud of their husbands when they achieve great things.

I remember a discussion about this issue. One of my friends said, “I would never marry a girl who has a higher degree or higher income than me because she will take over my responsibility. We know every person in the family has rights and responsibilities. No one needs to take another’s responsibility, but there is a quote that says, “ Each personality type has strength of its own” that means women can have strength of taking many responsibility in a one time

However, once a woman starts earning more than her husband, his contribution to the household work starts decreasing.

As everyone knows, most of  our society is interested in listening rather than reading. Mothers are the people who share social information like health, family issues and training for children and adolescents. Also, the teachers and mentors of the family specially during childhood are mothers, since girls will get opportunities to learn, to interact with their society and to share their knowledge after marriage.

Furthermore, women are kind and generous. They spend most of their money on needy people and their families.

Life in our country, especially in big cities, is expensive. The income of one person in the family cannot cover the needs of the family. Even if it covers the basic needs of the family, there would be a gap in this family when there is an emergency. So the quality of life is stronger if both partners are earning.

The benefit of women to is Financial independence is the most important factor that controls the quality of a woman’s life. It is one of the most liberating aspects that you need to lead a quality life with respect.

When you are financially stable, you can bear your own expenses, you don’t need to seek money from your partner.

Earning money will give you a sense of accomplishment and self-identity, allowing you to evolve as a better and more independent human being.
Sit at home women often suffer a feeling of guilt, they might feel ashamed asking for money from their husbands or father. But when you are earning, you are free to spend it wherever you want.
