Are Health Workers Really Mean as We Think They Are?

Image
source: Google "Always think about what you would do if you were here, and what you would like to be done." In Somalia, there are many complaints claim health care providers which are not based on the context; many health care services are complained about by the people, especially the attitude of the health workers in the hospitals. The complaints are about how health workers behave to the patients and Para Patients (the person who gives the patient care, either family or friends) during work. Although the blame is different, they condemn similar behaviors like impoliteness, unkindness, superiority, and others which are unpleasant. Besides, health professionals were contradicted by those condemns. They have argued that they deal with good behavior at working conditions with their clients and they could not violate their rights, but the patients and para patients do not fully understand the challenges faced by health workers. Also, our community lacks tolerance. For exa...

My reflections & takeaway for a four-week-long Blog writing Training at SPA

My reflections & takeaway for a four-week-long Blog writing Training at SPA One month of Blog writing training held by Somali Public Agenda (SPA) has come to an end. The training was a great opportunity for me  to start up my dreams about writing articles and telling stories to my communities. The reason I applied was to improve my writing skills, share  inspiring and painful stories to my community and  improve  my English And Somali language vocabularies.  I believed when I started the program, I would create my blog post web and would get someone who would review my blog posts. Also, my expectation was to write some blog posts to share with my community and to get writing colleagues who encourage me to continue blogging. Fortunately, I achieved more than my expectations during that period. Since I started the training, my writing skills have improved gradually and I wrote four blog posts. The training was beneficial for me. It connected me Somali pr...

Why do young girls’ marriage affect their social and academic progress/status?

Image
why ? Many girls in the world who were active in academics and social activities became inactive after their marriage. Only a few men are kind enough to allow their partner to pursue higher education although they also don’t often allow them to work when they finish the study. There are many different factors affecting girls' role in the community such as traditional beliefs, ignorance and the state of the country. For instance, our community believes if the wife is richer than the husband or has a higher profile in the society, she  will take over the decisions of the family. Although the standard life of a family dictates sharing and consultation of the two partners, in Somalia things are different. Due to that perception and sharing shores, most husbands stop their wives from working  or gaining higher education. As a matter of fact, most Somali men feel ashamed when their wife has a higher title in the society.  In contrast, wives are proud of their husbands when...

My Education Journey in a war-ravaged Mogadishu

Image
"During the worst days in Mogadishu, there was an unforgettable day in my life." I was born and grew up in Mogadishu. I was in grade seven when Ethiopian troops rolled into Somalia in 2006. The worst experience I had during the Ethiopian invasion in Mogadishu was in Sep 2007. At the time we were going back home from school. Somali troops closed part of Abdiqasim road, so the school bus driver couldn't reach some schools like Hoyga Xamar and Ma'mur. When we reached the Banadir high school, the military called Calal-uus stopped our bus. They tortured the driver and we alighted quickly. Some of us were barefooted. We ran to Ex Digfeer hospital which was controlled by Ethiopian troops due to shock. Fortunately, we realized that we were in danger and we stepped back into the tarabunka junction. Finally, we reached the Bakara junction on foot while some of us were barefoot and the sun was very hot. In Feb-2008 we fled from our district to the outskirts of Dayniile district....
